This week, our team all dressed up and the guys did something very special for the girls. First of all, they escorted us to our tables and served us food. That was precious.

But then, they took us in small groups to these different stops where they had prepared stations to talk to us. The first was with two guys who read us verses and shared with us about how they see true beauty in us. Not just physical, but Godly beauty. Then the next station, they washed our feet. If you know your New Testament, you know what a sign this is. Then the next station they read some more verses, then the last they prayed over us. Then they gave us roses. Then, afterwords, they were just talking to us more about it, and it was even more powerful because it wasn’t scripted. It just came from their hearts, and they really really meant it. Some of them even started crying because it came from deep within their hearts.

We all were bawling the whole time because it was these guys that we really look up to telling us that they love and cherish us. They kept saying how the world’s view of beauty is so screwed up and that they see us everyday, sweating and dying in the heat, and loving on these kids, and that is true beauty. But then they kept saying how, even though they love us so much, this is only a shadow of God’s love for us. It was so amazing.

After being treated horribly by Christian guys, you think that you aren’t worth it. That there’s nothing special about you. After making mistakes with guys that you regret, you can’t help but think you’re defiled. You’re worthless. I have never felt that kind of love from someone other than my family that I did Thursday night. I can’t even begin to describe how powerful and wonderful it was. These guys really do care about us. About me. This means that there is hope, that there is someone out there who will love me in a way that God would approve of. He will be loyal to me, but put God first. I can’t even imagine how wonderful it will be.

But I’m not ready. I’m crushing hard on one of those guys, but I need to be earnestly seeking God. I’m not ready for anything with anyone right now, because I’m not quite right with God. I need to pursue Him the way He pursues me.

I’m so overwhelmed by Thursday. I felt so loved, so safe, so beautiful, and yet, this is only a tiny glimpse of God’s love for us. I’m so overwhelmed when I think about how amazing He is. All these things that I’ve held against myself for so long God has forgiven a long time ago. It’s like it never happened. He looks at me and sees His beautiful daughter.

Wow.

I can’t believe God would love me like that. Whenever I get a glimpse of it, I just start bawling. The other night, Drew was talking about how we want to be aggressively pursued, and I’ve never felt that before. Yet that is how God is every day. Even when I don’t think about Him at all, He’s always pulling me to Him.

Wow.

God is amazing.

What Are YOU Looking At?

While attempting to explain why they had taken on human form, Brother(s) Cavil explained that when the Cylons decided to give themselves an upgrade they remodeled themselves on their makers, saying “we became what we beheld.” As an excuse for genocide, they argued that they had taken on the worst aspects of mankind, becoming rebels, murderers, tyrants and everything in between.

It got me wondering about what we do when it comes to all the things we allow into our minds and how that shapes and molds us. We are all taking in images, sounds, words, ideas and concepts and more often than not, letting them sink down into our spirit which is supposed to be treated as a vault containing the mechanism of God-Breathed Existence. We are reminded in Proverbs 4:23 to guard our heart with all diligence but how often do we stop and think about what we allow into our hearts and minds on a daily basis?

The abyss can only look back at you after you’ve stared into it, after all.

When Christ returns, we will see Him and something very interesting will happen: we will become like Him! (1 John 3:2) Will this be an instantaneous event or the culmination of a life spent looking into His Word and changing ourselves to match what we see there?
